2003: Transmissions from Quonset
This 2003 project realized a full reading of Harlan Ellison’s Night Vigil, a brilliant story of human alienation in space. The soundtrack was chosen to drive the story along, and there are echoes and cadences of the narrator.
Howlingmime created incidental music to bridge regions in the text where other music didn’t fit. This project utilized multi-tracking effects to simulate atmospheric effects to and to create psychological response in the audience.
Transmissions from Quonset has been played on numerous radio stations in the Austin area, as well as online. There have been listening parties organized to enjoy this strong narrative soundscape. It is Howlingmime’s favorite narrative soundscape to date.
